SUMMARY

In this study, the quality of municipal water Makrychori as those used for water supply and for irrigation. In samples taken regular sampling approximately one per month over one year ( March 2004 to March 2005 ) studied the basic properties that characterize the water on both uses ( pH, electrical conductivity, concentration of sodium, calcium, magnesium, chlorine, nitrate, boron and heavy metals) and their quality was evaluated based on international standards.

The results showed that in terms of water intended for drinking water supply facilities all have very good quality waters. The pH was within acceptable values ( 6.5-8.5 ) , the hardness was found to range generally about 200-350 ppm CaCO3 and the chlorine concentration was much lower than the upper permissible limit (350 ppm) and the nitrate content of all drilling it was lower than the target price of 25 ppm.

As regards the water for irrigation in all cases ( except two ) the electrical conductivity was less than 750 mmhos / cm characterized as " good." Exceptions are drilling in positions " Gyrtoni Village" with a unique value in 1720 mmhos / cm and " Pomoni Gkampeta " with conductivity values & gt; 750 mmhos / cm of Makrychori Municipal District that ranks them in the category of " permissible ".

Chlorine concentration in all contexts was lower limits for all types of irrigation (140 ppm for surface irrigation and 105 ppm for drip irrigation ) . The boron concentration was also very low ( far less than 0.7 ppm). As to the concentration of bicarbonate water classified as " at low to moderate degree of restriction ."

All the waters of irrigation drilling Municipality measured nitrate concentrations & lt; 22.15 ppm, which places them in the category 'No restriction degree ", but two wells in Location" Livestock "by DD Tributary and at "Avlagades Kingdom" by DD of Elateia that the prices fall in the category "small to moderate degree of containment" .Anaforika the origin of nitrates in the water proved that depending on the position of the boreholes is of organic origin and marks a point source pollution and in the case of mixed (organic and inorganic origin) and marks a point and non-point source pollution.
