The Project

The disturbed by mining and general mining surfaces in limestone areas activity found throughout Greece . The conditions in these areas appears to be generally negative or prohibitive for the growing plant. On excavation, consisting of compact and usually hard limestone , it is not possible to install vegetation , uncoated with soil material .

To improve the conditions prevailing interest is the sludge from the water treatment at sewage treatment plants.

The proposed research project ie . The use of sludge biological treatment to restore the surfaces that have been disturbed by mining activity , we seek to implement the following objectives:

  • Investigate the potential for improvement of waste rock material with the use of sludge in order to allow restoration of disturbed landscape.
  • Sustainable development of landfill sites from mining activities using sludge and minimize restoration costs
