Mobile Laboratory Services

The mobile laboratory was established by the Ministerial Decision 265972/13-11-2000 of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to serve the rural sector by performing analyses on soil, plant (tissue), water and waste samples. These analyses are performed in parallel to those of the main lab of the Institute for serving farmers and everyone interested. The mobile laboratory uses quick methods which are performed in situ (or in combination with the analyses performed by the main laboratory of the Institute) and provides consulting with regard to proper fertilization, suitability of irrigation water, wastes e.t.c.

The analyses performed by the supportive automobile laboratory are:

Soil:

  • pH
  • lime requirements
  • electrical conductivity- soluble salts
  • calcium carbonate equivalent
  • nitrate -N
  • bulk density
  • soil texture
  • aggregate stability
  • soil resistance
  • soil structure
  • infiltration rate
  • soil moisture
  • water holding capacity and available moisture
  • soil respiration
  • soil worms-soil fauna

Plants:

Concentration of nutrients in plant tissue

  • ΝΟ3, ΡΟ4, Κ

Water:

  • pH
  • electrical conductivity
  • NO3-

Wastes:
Liquids

  • as in water analysis
  • Biochemical Oxygen Demand or Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD),
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)

Not urgent analyses or not performed by the mobile laboratory may carried out in the main soil analyses laboratory of the Institute in samples sellected by the automobile laboratory staff.
