History
The National Centre for Quality Control, Classification and Standardization of Cotton and its laboratories in Karditsa and Orchomenos, are Division the Institute of Industrial and Forage Crops of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization "DEMETER" (CMD 919/131869/20-10-2014 (ΦΕΚ Β΄2889). Since the year 2002 it belonged to the National Cotton Organization and it went to the NAGREF (MD /29.7.2002 (ΦΕΚ 1029/Β/7.8.2002), Institute of Cotton and Industrial Crops (MD 290348/11.11.2002, 254196/29.7.2002 ΦΕΚ 1447/Β/18.11.2002).
Objectives - Activities
According to the Ministerial Decision (ΦΕΚ 1058 / TB / 2014) it is responsible for:
- The implementation of cotton Standardization and Classification – in the country with modern methods and international standards.
- Arbitration in the fields that the Centre is accredited.
- Collaboration with other relevant services of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, organization of actions for the improvement of the quality and competitiveness of the product, as well as educational and research projects.
- Building a database for the quality of Greek cotton and the publication of relevant reports.
The laboratory of Karditsa provides services for the quality control of cotton in the manufacturing industry (ginning), in cotton seed companies, cotton merchants and other customers. It participates in international interlaboratory tests (CSITC, BCRT, 7 tests / year). The laboratories are equipped with high-tech equipment and staffed by highly trained personnel.
