SUMMARY

Large area of Trikala covered with acid soils. The productivity of these soils is low and cultivation made to them are likely to affect the environment. For these reasons require improved. To address this problem the Prefecture of Trikala decided to propose inclusion of a specific project in the Third Community Support Framework (CSF). The purpose of this study is to support the request to the Thessaly Region for approval and inclusion in the CSF of this project.

Objects of study in this context was to identify and assess the extent of acidic soils of Law . Trikala requiring improvement , the estimate of the required cost and motion vector execution and management of the project . Less objectives were to describe the environmental benefit of the project implementation and the pilot GIS for monitoring the quality and management of soil resources .

For this purpose, they gathered all the necessary data from existing works (soil, climate, geology, culture, etc.), which have been evaluated. Based on preliminary estimates, was extensive soil sampling in all areas where there were reports that contain acidic soils. Total collected approximately 700 soil samples, which are thoroughly analyzed in the laboratory in order to determine their potential acidity and assess the required amounts of lime to those territories to improve their deemed necessary.

Total area of soils with low pH (& lt; 6.0) required to definitely improve estimated at 15,000 ha. approximately, while the required amounts of calcium carbonate to raise the pH of the soil to the desired level ( 6.5 - 7.0 ) were calculated from 7000-12400 the calcium carbonate, depending on the assay and the desired pH level (6.5 or 7.0 ). Moreover it has been estimated that there are 23 850 ha . Slightly acidic soil ( 6.1 )

As operator proposed E.V.Z. SA since it seems that it meets the required conditions, infrastructure and expertise, and also has the material to be used for soil improvement, ie asvestoily . Support in project management can also offer N.AG.RE.F. ( Technique) and the Development Company of Trikala Prefecture.
